"I can tell you that the weather is fantastic this morning. It is cold and very quiet. The sun is shining and is giving everything a golden color. It is a very special light yet – I suggest that you have seen it and remember it! .... Now the birds are also quiet,  they have left for the winter – but they will come back – they always do you know!"
Lydia Didriksen - Torshavn, October 2001

These few words in an e-mail from a friend in the Faroe Islands brought back memories of the peace and tranquility of the islands of the North Atlantic. The collection of photographs and watercolours on these pages reinforce the beauty of the region, and may go some way towards illustrating the 'special light' to which the writer refers.  A result of the combination of low sun, crisp cold air and an almost complete absence of man's pollution, this light is special indeed.
